The state Senate completed the confirmation of state Democratic Rep. Ken Goodman of Richmond County to join the six-member commission, which determines workers' compensation awards. Like the previous House confirmation vote, Senate support for Goodman on Thursday was unanimous.
Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper nominated Goodman to serve starting May 1, succeeding Yolanda Stith, whose term is expiring. Goodman must leave the legislature so Democratic activists in Goodman's district will soon meet to choose someone to serve the rest of of his two-year House term.
Senate votes on Thursday also completed confirmations to reappoint James Gillen to the Industrial Commission and for Steve Warren to serve as a special Superior Court judge.
