People really want to share with me!

Hi, my name is Ashley and I'm a member of Team 9/64 walking in the 2013 Charlotte Avon Walk for Breast Cancer.  When I first volunteered for this Walk, I really had no idea how impactful it would be.  I knew that I had personal experience with breast cancer and that it had already hit very close to home many times.  What I didn't know is how many people have had the same experiences I've had, or even very different ones, and how much they would want to share those experiences with me.

I have received overwhelming support in my training and my fundraising, most of which came from people who have been impacted by breast cancer.  People's mother, sister, cousin, aunt or close friends had all suffered in some way.  It's amazing what this voyage into the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer has done for me and the relationships and bonds that I have formed because of it.

I have shared heart breaking stories with coworkers and friends, but what has been so much more inspiring are the stories of hope and survival.  I have heard from so many people that I haven’t communicated with in years, and have been reminded of their stories of triumph with very happy endings.

I believe that the best part of hearing from these friends and family members is that I get to share their stories of victory with the people in my life who have been more recently affected by breast cancer.  There is nothing better to me than being able to tell someone recently stricken with this diagnosis all of the joyful and uplifting stories from the people I know who have not only survived, but thrived after beating breast cancer!

As the Avon Walk event draws nearer, I am bolstered by all of these accounts from so many who have supported me.  I am reminded that it is because of efforts like the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer, that I am able to hear and share all of these victorious stories!

As I gear up for my walk, I am so thankful to be boosted by the positive endings shared with me and am even more thankful that because of my decision to be a part of this cause, there will continue to be more and more happy stories to be shared!

Come to the Walk in Charlotte on October 26 and 27 and cheer us on!  We'll be departing from the NASCAR Hall of Fame on Saturday the 26th at 7 a.m. and will cover 39.3 miles in 2 days. We'd love to have huge crowds all along the route cheering us on, giving us encouragement and supporting us in our efforts to make a difference.

Click here to donate to the fundraising- we are making a difference in people's lives with our donations! The more of us who walk (and donate), the more of us survive!
