Rain in Charlotte this morning, snow for the mountains

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Rain is falling in the Metro area early Tuesday morning, with snow continuing to come down in the mountains.

The rain will continue steadily through midday with just scattered showers forecasted for the afternoon. The Charlotte area could even see some sunshine mixing with the showers later Tuesday.

Temperatures will stay chilly as gusty northerly winds settle in later Tuesday. The high will barely reach 50 degrees.

All of this wet weather will clear out Tuesday night as temps chill down into the low-to-mid 20s.

It will be very cold Tuesday night, with a freeze warning in place for the Metro and south of Charlotte. The record low is 22 degrees and we could threaten that.

Dry weather will return for the next few days as we slowly warm up.
