SC officer, suspect injured in chase shooting

FLORENCE, S.C. — A Florence police officer and a suspect have been hurt in a shooting that followed a police chase.

Police Chief Allen Heidler says an officer spotted a vehicle that had been reported stolen in Richland County on Monday afternoon and chased it until it crashed into a utility pole. A police cruiser involved in the chase also ran into a ditch.

Heidler said the suspect ran from the car and an officer chased him. Heidler said a shot was fired and both the suspect and officer were injured. The injured did not appear to be serious.

The names of the injured were not released.

The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting.
