Heavy rains usher in cold temperatures

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Heavy rain will be moving into the Charlotte area later Monday night.

The main threat through this event will be heavy rainfall, but there will be the possibility of a rumble of thunder.

Widespread severe weather is not anticipated.

Rain will continue Tuesday and could pick up at about noon.

Between now and early Tuesday, the top threat will be very heavy rain. There will be a couple rumbles of thunder but widespread severe weather is not anticipated.

There is the possibility of stronger storms with some severe; however, heavy rainfall will be the biggest impact. Localized flooding in some poor-drainage areas is possible.

The rain will start to clear out by late afternoon Tuesday accompanied by colder temperatures. Lows are expected to drop near the freezing mark Wednesday morning. A little snow could fall in the mountains.
