The Make it Right project director, Kali Holloway, tells WCIV-TV that they are launching a campaign to remove the statue of John C. Calhoun that stands in Downtown Charleston.
Holloway says their nationwide campaign to remove confederate monuments gained momentum after the 2015 Mother Emmanuel AME Church massacre.
The statue in question is protected under the South Carolina Heritage Act unless legislators vote to remove it with a two-thirds vote.
The group tells WCIV-TV they are planning to pay for ads in the Lowcountry to rally support behind their initiative.
