Chesterfield Co. sheriff: Strong suspect identified in killing of transgender woman

COLUMBIA, S.C. — The Chesterfield County sheriff says he has a strong suspect in the killing of a transgender woman and it appears to be an argument over a break-up.

Authorities say 29-year-old Sasha Wall, who used to go by Wendell Price, was shot several times at close range while in her car on a rural road in Chesterfield County on April 1.

Sheriff Jay Brooks says State Law Enforcement Division agents are testing DNA from the scene that likely came from the killer.

Brooks says that investigators think Wall was killed by someone romantically involved with her and not because she was a transgender woman.

A vigil was held Sunday at the South Carolina Statehouse in Wall's honor calling for more tolerance and understanding of transgender people.
