1 inmate captured, 2 others at large after escaping from SC jail

ORANGEBURG, S.C. — Investigators in South Carolina said they've captured one Orangeburg County inmate, but two others are still on the loose.

Lexington County deputies received a tip that led them to arrest Christopher Boltin. He's already charged with carjacking and larceny but there was no word yet on what new charges he faces.

The Orangeburg County Sheriff's Office said in Facebook post that three inmates escaped Saturday night and that all are considered dangerous.

Sheriff Leroy Ravenell identified the three as 27-year-old Tyshon Johnson; 20-year-old Curtis Green; and 27-year-old Christopher Boltin.

Authorities said Johnson and Green are charged with murder.

Officials said the men attacked a corrections officer during their escape on Saturday night.

“Our officer was assaulted at the jail,” the sheriff said. “I think during the assault, they already apparently had this planned. Be vigilant and to make phone calls. Call us if they see or hear anything.”

Police say the manhunt has extended beyond the border of South Carolina.

An inmate serving a sentence for violation probation escaped last year from the jail, which was built in 1967.

County officials have approved construction of a new $26 million jail.
