GREENWOOD, S.C. (AP) - An inmate who had been serving an 88-day sentence could spend 15 years in prison because authorities say he escaped from an assigned job.

The Greenwood County Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook that 40-year-old Robert Andrew Proctor was captured hours after his Tuesday afternoon escape.

Proctor was scheduled to be released Aug. 4. The sheriff's office wrote that Proctor is now facing escape and resisting arrest charges.

The maximum sentence for escape is 15 years in prison.

News outlets report Proctor is also awaiting trial for a Dec. 2018 arrest. He has been charged in that case with driving under the influence, marijuana possession and meth possession with intent to distribute.

It's unclear whether Proctor had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.
