Anderson School District 5 spokesman Kyle Flood said the 10-year-old boy suffered a severe neck injury and a broken wrist Thursday at Concord Elementary School in Anderson.

Newton says the boy was unconscious when he was taken to the hospital.

Newton says the incident was an accident and was not caused by another student or by broken equipment.

The school held a prayer vigil Thursday night and had counselors on hand Friday to talk to students.

The boy's condition has not been updated.
