News outlets reported that the Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System has agreed to buy the Mary Black Health System.
The Spartanburg Regional board of trustees agreed unanimously to the deal Thursday, which has also approved by the owner of the Mary Black system, Community Health Systems of Franklin, Tennessee.
The purchase price was not released. The deal is expected to close by the end of the year.
The purchase includes Mary Black's 207 bed hospital in Spartanburg, as well as Mary Black Hospital in Gaffney, which has 125 beds.
Spartanburg Regional will operate six hospitals in Spartanburg, Union and Cherokee counties and employ more than 8,000 people when the deal is completed.
