Steamy, dry Thursday but will Panthers game be a washout?

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It's another mild start to the day this Thursday morning before temperatures quickly heat up, with highs approaching 90 degrees by the afternoon hours.

Be sure to enjoy the sunshine and warmer weather though because big changes will arrive Friday.

Clouds will move in overnight and temperature will be in the upper 60s Friday morning. Rain will also arrive Friday -- in the mountains first, possibly as early as midday.

The Charlotte area will likely see showers and storms arrive around 5 p.m. Friday. That means we could be dealing with rain for the Panthers preseason game against Buffalo Friday night.

Conditions will still be warm and muggy Friday though, with highs in the mid-80s.

The heaviest rain will arrive over the weekend -- likely overnight Friday into Saturday. The rain will be in and out throughout the day Saturday, with some storms possible.

As of now the threat of severe weather remains low. The biggest concern will be heavy rain in some spots leading to flooding. Some areas could see 2-3 inches of rain by Sunday evening.

Temperatures will be cooler though Sunday, with highs in the upper 70s or low 80s.
