BRILES STARTS OVER
MOUNT VERNON, Texas _ In a small East Texas town, a few blocks from a quaint town square, Art Briles is about to coach football games again. It's a far cry from Baylor, where he led the Bears to the doorstep of the College Football Playoff five years ago and the school that fired him three years ago in the wake of a sprawling sexual assault scandal he has insisted he handled correctly. After going to Italy when job offers in the CFL and a Mississippi college dried up, Briles will be under Friday night lights on Don Meredith Field in Mount Vernon, population 3,000. Some residents around here question the somewhat secretive hiring of the coach on a holiday weekend, but many others look forward to their Tigers being coached by a two-time Big 12 champion who also won four high school championships on the other side of the state two decades ago.
