‘Beauty bandit' in Colorado steals wigs made for cancer patients, police say

FORT COLLINS, Colo — Colorado police are looking for a woman who allegedly stole wigs designed for cancer patients.

Marcia and Brandon Lilly own The Life of the Party, a costume store in Fort Collins. They said a woman entered the store July 9, bought a pair of tights and then asked to use the bathroom, KDVR reported.

“She seemed very nice. She was asking about our kid. She was asking about the store," Marcia Lilly told the television station.

According to the store's surveillance camera, the "bandit beauty" was wearing a pink T-shirt. She is shown stuffing two wigs into her purse and leaving the store, KDVR reported.

“You could very distinctly see her in the camera look and see that I was on the phone and then make the decision to go,” Marcia Lilly told the television station.

The wigs were designed for cancer patients, and Marcia Lilly said losing them hurts people who need them.

"One of the companies we carry, they donate. For every wig they sell or we sell, they will donate a wig for free to a cancer patient," Marcia Lilly told KDVR. "It's not just taking from us. It's taking from people in need who couldn't maybe afford a wig otherwise."

“I was instantly angered and kind of offended by it,” Brandon Lilly told the television station. "It felt so personal. For somebody to come in and spend that much time and get to know Marcia, talk with my son and see that this is a family-owned business.”

The Lillys hope someone will recognize the "beauty bandit."

"Another local business here reshared our post and they're like keep an eye out, but be aware, she's probably wearing a wig," Brandon Lilly told KDVR.
