Divers swim with enormous stingray off Florida gulf coast

Two scuba divers encountered a giant stingray when they were exploring in the Gulf of Mexico off Florida's west coast.

Two scuba divers could not believe what they saw when they were prowling the waters of the Gulf of Mexico eight miles from Florida’s west coast.

A stingray estimated to be between 10 feet and 12 feet long -- including the stinger -- was resting on the floor of the gulf near Tarpon Springs, WFTS reported.

Howard Cohn, who was diving with Shawn Campbell of the Narcosis Scuba Center, found the giant sea creature Sunday.

"That was the biggest ray I've ever seen," Cohn told WTSP. "It was the size of a car. It was a monster!"

In the video taken by Cohn, Campbell swims next to the stingray, which watches the two divers before swimming away, the television station reported.
