Promise Bone has been cutting hair in Rushville for 14 years, WXIN reported. Her home, which was not insured, caught fire on early on Good Friday and burned down, the television station reported. Bone, her husband, two sons and a pet bird made it out of the house, but since the fire they have been forced to stay with relatives, according to WXIN.

"I was thinking, ‘What do I do now,’ and ‘Life’s about to get real hard,’" Bone told the television station.

Jessica Cartrell, who is a neighbor and family friend, reached out to Rushville residents for help.

"They lost everything, and they were going to have to start completely over," Cartrell told WXIN. "With two children, that’s not an easy thing to do."

So far, 80 people have donated more than $4,000 through an online fundraiser, the television station reported. Other people have dropped off money at Bone’s shop in Rushville.

"Everybody’s immediate response kind of eased our minds a little bit about being OK," Bone told WXIN. "That got me thinking, you never know the lives you’re touching, by the little things you do every day.

“As a barber, I’ve learned a lot. What I’ve learned is everybody struggles and all we really want is that human connection that someone cares."

A pizza tailgate party is scheduled for Wednesday to benefit Bone and her family, WXIN reported.
