Police: Florida man sent woman 10,000 texts in April, some of them threatening

A Florida man is accused of aggravated stalking after sending approximately 10,000 texts -- some threatening, some sexually explicit -- to a woman over 12 days in April, deputies said.

Nicholas C. Nelson, 48, of Parkland, is charged with aggravated stalking, writing intimidating and threatening messages, according to arrest records at the Broward County Sheriff's Office.

The woman said she began receiving an avalanche of texts on April 5 from Nelson, a man she knows through a close friend, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

The arrest affidavit provides no motive for Nelson's texts, the newspaper reported. According to the arrest affidavit, some of Nelson's texts had foreboding tones, like "You and I, we die together;" "The only man you’ll ever be with again is me;” and "Her & I can drive tanks around America & blow up churches or whatever we want & you could protect us.”

One text from Nelson claimed he was not suicidal, "not even in the least," according to the affidavit.

"But I’d rather die then (sic) spend time in jail," Nelson wrote.

According to detectives, Nelson went beyond texts, leaving clothes on the front yard of the woman's relatives' home on April 13, the Sun-Sentinel reported.

Four days later, Nelson allegedly sent the woman a photograph of what appears to be an airport parking lot, the newspaper reported. According to the arrest affidavit, Nelson's caption read, "I'm going to start blowing up planes to prove my point.'

Nelson was arrested Sunday and booked into the Broward County Jail, the Sun-Sentinel reported. He remains in jail in lieu of a $500,000 bond, according to arrest records.
