Lorain police responded Wednesday to an abandoned home after a woman reported finding her boyfriend and another man dead inside, WXYZ-TV reported, citing a police report.

The woman told police she had been unable to contact her boyfriend, so she went to the house because it was “one of his favorite places to visit,” the report said. She found her boyfriend and one of his friends on a mattress in the living room.

When first responders arrived, a paramedic found no signs of life in the men and estimated they had been dead for a couple of hours, according to the report. It’s believed the men died of opioid overdoses.

Police reported “deplorable” conditions in the home, and said there were “hundreds, if not thousands” of hypodermic needles inside. The home also had rotting floors and a broken foundation.

The home poses a risk for anyone who may enter it, including law enforcement if they need to respond to another, similar report, police said.

In a statement, the Lorain Police Department said to report any activity in abandoned homes and to not allow children to play in them.
