Police searching for couple who left 6 dogs to die in SUV

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Police are searching for two people who were hired to transport dozens of dogs and instead left many of them in an abandoned vehicle where they were found dead Wednesday, police said.

Annette Rosenow, a dog breeder, hired a man and woman through Craigslist to help her move her dogs to Texas, according to Albuquerque police. She met the couple at a park where she handed over the dogs, but the strangers never followed her out of Albuquerque, police said.

"I don't think there is any intent ever to deliver these dogs," police spokesman Simon Drobik told KOAT. "She probably took the money, dumped the car and these dogs died."

A woman identified as Sara is seen, in a video released by police, walking from the rented black Ford Explorer, where six dead dogs were found.

APD Discovers Abandoned Car with Deceased Dogs Inside An APD sergeant responding to a call about a suspicious vehicle on Wednesday discovered six deceased dogs inside the vehicle parked at 5801 Lomas Blvd, N.E. After further investigation, officers determined a woman from Estancia hired two people through Craigslist to transport dozens of her dogs to Texas, where she is moving. Annette Rosenow, a breeder who also had several rescue dogs, met the two strangers at Los Altos Park in Albuquerque on Tuesday evening to hand over the dogs for the trip. But the strangers never followed Rosenow out of Albuquerque. The next day, one of the two people, a woman identified as Sara, allegedly abandoned the vehicle she was driving, a rented black Ford Explorer, with six dogs inside. The dogs were left inside the vehicle with the windows closed according to surveillance video from a nearby business. Police are working to locate the woman, as well as the other person who had 5-6 dogs with him in another vehicle, a rented silver Dodge Caravan. “Officers are focused on finding the woman suspected of this extreme cruelty to animals, along with her partner, and ensuring the remaining dogs are safe,” said APD spokesman Gilbert Gallegos. “We need help from the public. Any tips are helpful.” Tips about the location of the woman or the second vehicle can be called in to CrimeStoppers at 505-843-STOP. Police would also like to question Rosenow to find out why she hired strangers to transport the animals. “It should go without saying that residents should never rely on strangers to care for pets or transport them,” Gallegos said.

"There was one medium-sized dog curled up on the driver's side with his head wedged into the door between the door and the seat like he was trying to get out. The other one that I saw was kind of hanging half on half off the back seat like it was frenzied and panicked," Cassi Begnaud, who works at a nearby business and went to check on the vehicle, told KOAT.

Police are searching for her and an accomplice who was driving a silver Dodge Caravan with five or six more dogs.
