ORION TOWNSHIP, Mich. — One man died Thursday morning after a fight between custodial workers at a General Motors assembly plant in Michigan, according to multiple reports.
Officials with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said they responded around 1:40 a.m. to GM’s Orion Assembly plant in Orion Township, the Detroit News reported. They found a 49-year-old Pontiac man unconscious and bleeding and later pronounced him dead at the scene, according to the newspaper.
Authorities said they found the suspect, identified as a 48-year-old coworker, standing in a nearby dock area, WDIV-TV reported. Both he and the victim were employees of a cleaning service contracted by GM, according to the news station.
There was an altercation between coworkers at the GM Orion plant this morning. It resulted in the death of one victim and we have the suspect in custody. There is no active danger to the community or the plant.

“The item used in the slaying was recovered,” Steve Huber, communications officer for the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, said in a news release obtained by the Detroit Free Press. “The incident and possible motive remains under investigation.”
The fight happened during off-production hours at the GM plant, according to the Free Press. In a statement obtained by WXYZ-TV, GM officials said they canceled production Thursday at the plant.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to the victim’s family,” the statement said.
About 1,200 people work at the Orion Assembly, which builds electric vehicles including the Bolt EV and the Bolt EUV.
