Sheriff Mike Boudreaux said authorities took Noah David Beard, 25, into custody without incident in Visalia. Angel “Nanu” Uriarte, 35, was hospitalized after engaging in a “gun battle” with agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. He was undergoing surgery and expected to survive, the sheriff said.

Deputies were called to a home in rural Goshen early on Jan. 16. A woman reported that her boyfriend had been shot and that she could hear more shots being fired.

“They keep shooting,” the woman could be heard in the 911 call, according to a recording shared by investigators. “Please hurry, please!”

Deputies believe Uriarte first shot Eladio Parraz Jr., 52, twice, killing him. Next, he shot Marcos Parraz, 19, in the head, Boudreaux said. Jennifer Analla, 50, appeared to have been shot and killed while she was sleeping. Investigators found Rosa Perraz, 72, kneeling as though she were getting out of bed when she was killed.

Outside, authorities found Alissa Parraz, 16, and her 10-month-old son, Nycholas Parraz, dead in the street, Boudreaux said. Video shared by deputies showed Alissa place her baby over a wooden fence before she jumped a metal gate to try to run from the shooters.

Authorities believe the pair was killed by Beard, while Uriarte killed the other victims.

“This case is very dark,” said Josh Jackson, acting special agent in charge of the ATF’s San Francisco field division. “It comes from a very dark place.”

Boudreaux said they placed Beard and Uriarte under round-the-clock surveillance on Jan. 23. Both were identified as members of the Norteños gang, while two of the victims were identified as members of the rival Sureños gang. On Friday, authorities searched eight prison cells and 16 inmates at five state prisons in connection with the Nuestra Familia prison gang, Boudreaux said.

In court filings obtained by The Associated Press, prosecutors said Uriarte was convicted in 2015 of “assault with a firearm in association with a street gang.” Beard had juvenile convictions, the AP reported.

The deadly shootings happened three days after Alissa was granted full custody of her son, who had spent months in foster care, according to the AP.

Boudreaux said Friday that the motive behind the Jan. 16 shooting was “not exactly clear.” Authorities continue to investigate.
