RICHMOND, Calif. — Three people died and five others were injured after gunfire erupted during a party on Father’s Day in Richmond, California, authorities said.
Update 3:40 p.m. ET June 21: Authorities said officers responded to multiple calls around 11 p.m. about a shooting on the 2100 block of Dunn Avenue.
Police found two people dead at the scene. Six other people were taken to hospitals with injuries, officials said. One of those people later died of their injuries.
Investigators said the shooting took place following a gathering of between 80 and 100 people. KNTV initially reported the gathering was a Father’s Day celebration, although police later told the news station that it was a religious celebration and not related to Sunday’s holiday.
“The shooting appears to have been targeted and isolated to this gathering however, the motive is unknown at this time,” police said Monday in a news release.
Authorities continue to investigate.
Original report: According to KGO, the shooting occurred shortly before 11 p.m. PDT Sunday on Dunn Avenue. Police arrived to find at least eight shooting victims, including three who died and one in critical condition. Authorities described the remaining victims’ conditions as good or fair, the news outlet reported.
Witnesses told KTVU that the partygoers had been celebrating Father’s Day. Two shooters may have been involved, KGO reported.
No further details about possible suspects were immediately available.
