Detectives confirmed to KTBC-TV that Jaylyn Reed, 17, was shot Tuesday while attempting to rob a couple walking to their car at gunpoint.

According to the TV station, when Reed focused his attention on the female victim, the male victim pulled his gun out and shot the juvenile assailant in the leg.

Police later found Reed, his three accomplices and their getaway vehicle, KEYE-TV reported, noting that Reed was taken to an area hospital for medical treatment.

According to police, Reed was previously arrested for a series of 2021 armed robberies and carjackings but was released from custody May 27 and issued an ankle monitor. Investigators with the Auston Police Department believe Reed removed the ankle monitor two days later before launching a new spree, KTBC reported.

The group Reed was most recently arrested with is linked to nine robberies across the city from June 10-14, the TV station reported.

“Rest assured that Mr. Reed and his codefendants will be held accountable. Once someone cuts off an electronic monitoring device, law enforcement has a system in place to swiftly apprehend and detain that person. In this case, that system failed our community,” a spokesperson for the Travis County District Attorney’s office told KEYE.

Police identified Reed’s accomplices as Paul Rossum, Andre Harris and a juvenile who has not been identified publicly, the TV station reported.
