Actor Rick Moranis sucker punched while walking in New York

NEW YORK — A stranger walked up and sucker punched actor Rick Moranis Thursday while he was walking on a New York City sidewalk near Central Park.

Video shows a man wearing a black “I (heart) NY” sweatshirt punch Moranis, 67, knocking him to the ground around 7:24 a.m. The attacker then walks away.

The attack happened a few blocks from the building where Moranis' character in “Ghostbusters” lived.

Moranis suffered injuries to his head, back and hip, WCBS reported. He took himself to the hospital. He later walked to a police station to report the incident.

“(Moranis) is fine, but grateful for everyone’s thoughts and well wishes,” his management agency told WCBS.

Moranis got his start on the “Second City Television” sketch comedy show in the 1980s. He achieved notoriety from roles in blockbuster movies like “Ghostbusters,” “Spaceballs” and the “Honey, I Shrunk the Kids” franchise. He stepped back from the public eye to focus on his family after his wife’s death but has made appearances on occasion.

Recently, he made a cameo in a mint ad with actor Ryan Reynolds.

Police are searching for the suspect.
