According to WALA and WKRG, Mobile police arrested Mekel Moffatt, 21, on a willful child abuse charge in connection with the incident, which occurred Sunday morning in an apartment on Azalea Road.

Police, who responded to the home after receiving a call from Moffatt’s family, arrived about 10:30 a.m. to find an injured infant, the news outlets reported. The child was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors determined that his lungs were bruised, authorities said. The hospital plans to conduct more tests to see if he sustained any other injuries, according to the news outlets.

Moffatt admitted to an investigator that she had thrown the baby from the bed because he kept screaming, WALA and WKRG reported. He hit the floor more than 11 feet away, authorities said.
