Per the recall notice, Fremont, California-based ASUS imported the ROG Maximus Z690 Hero motherboards from Lite-On Vietnam Co. Ltd. A capacitor on the motherboard was installed in a reverse position, which can lead to a short circuit, overheating or melting, posing fire and burn hazards.

The affected motherboards were sold separately for computers and have part number 90MB18E0-MVAAY0. They also bear serial numbers that start with MA, MB and MC, indicating the manufacture year of 2021.

No injuries linked with the recall have been reported to date.

The affected motherboards were sold at Best Buy and Micro Center stores nationwide and online at Newegg and Amazon.com from October 2021 through December 2021 for about $600 each.

Consumers are advised to immediately stop using the recalled motherboard and visit https://www.asus.com/us/site/recalls for instructions on how to return the product for a free replacement that includes shipping costs.
