According to WTKR, the Norfolk attraction said mother Zina and father Sibindi welcomed the unnamed male calf on July 11. The newborn, who was 22 inches tall and 36 inches long, weighed about 125 pounds, the zoo said in a blog post Monday.

“This is a historic event for the zoo as this calf is the first of its species to be born at the Virginia Zoo, but also for first-time mom Zina,” the blog post read. “From the moment she gave birth, she has shown signs of good mothering instincts and has been very attentive to her calf.”

The zoo, which is now home to four southern white rhinos, added that the mother and new baby “can be seen in the rhinos’ night barn.”

“Mom and baby will stay indoors for keepers to monitor the two and their bond over the next several weeks,” the blog post said.

The zoo is holding an auction that will determine who can name the rhino. To place a bid, click here.
