Border Patrol officers bust woman crossing Texas border with heroin worth $1.5M

PHARR, Texas — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers arrested a Texas woman Saturday after discovering $1.5 million in suspected heroin concealed in her Volkswagen Jetta.

Officers encountered the 28-year-old U.S. citizen from Edinburg, Texas, arriving from Mexico at the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge, according to a news release.

The narcotics were discovered in the Jetta’s tires, resulting in the seizure of 24 packages containing an estimated total of 55 pounds of suspected heroin.

Officers seized both the narcotics and the vehicle before turning the unidentified woman over to the custody of Homeland Security Investigations agents.
