Two of the victims were in critical condition, the Chicago Tribune reported.

The shooting occurred in a home in the city’s Englewood neighborhood. Chicago police officers responded just before 5:45 a.m. CDT, WLS reported.

At a news conference, Chicago police Superintendent David Brown said three women and one man were pronounced dead at the scene, adding that the shooting occurred after an argument at the residence.

The four other victims were taken to area hospitals, according to WBBM.

Morgan listed the wounded as:

  • A woman whose age was unknown was shot and was in critical condition;
  • A man, 23, suffered a gunshot wound to the back and was listed in critical condition;
  • One man whose age was unknown was shot in the back of the head, His condition was unknown;
  • A man, 25, was shot in the back of the head; his condition was also unknown.

A child was also taken to an area hospital for observation, the Tribune reported. Brown said the 2-year-old was in the home at the time of the shooting but was not hurt, the newspaper reported.

A witness told police there were two rounds of gunshots inside the home, hours apart, Chicago Sun-Times reported. Brown said the first shots alerted police through the ShotSpotter systems at about 2 a.m. CDT. The witness heard shots again at about 5 a.m. CDT, the newspaper reported.

“Every time people gather, whether they are in their homes or outside, we got individuals that discharged that weapon, but who is going to talk?” community activist Andrew Holmes told WLS. “Who is going to tell? Who is going give up the information? And again, I’m going to point the finger at the state’s attorney’s office. Who is going to convict these people?”
