According to spokesperson Erin Mellon, the two children tested positive, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. Newsom, his wife and their other two children have since tested negative, according to KFSN.

All four of Newsom’s children are under the age of 12, meaning they are not yet eligible to receive a vaccine, the Chronicle reported.

“The family is following all COVID protocols,” Mellon said in a statement. “The Newsoms continue to support masking for unvaccinated individuals indoors to stop the spread and advocate for vaccinations as the most effective way to end this pandemic.”

It is unclear which children tested positive, CNN reported.

This summer, the parents pulled two of their children out of a day camp after learning that the camp administrators did not require kids to wear masks.

In November, all six members of the Newsom family were quarantined after learning that three children were exposed to a California Highway Patrol officer who tested positive for COVID-19, the Los Angeles Times reported. One of Newsom’s children had to quarantine after being exposed to a classmate at a Sacramento private school who had tested positive, the newspaper reported.

Newsom was vaccinated on camera in April and does not need to quarantine under California’s protocols, the Chronicle reported. According to the California Department of Public Health, vaccinated people who are exposed to COVID-19 should get tested within three to five days and wear a mask indoors in public places for two weeks.
