The incident took place near the Fashion Mall at Keystone, according to WXIN.

According to an Indianapolis Metro Police Department report, the woman had just parked her car and was walking toward a store when she was confronted by a man, the television station reported.

“He pulled out the gun and he had it pointed at me the entire time," the woman, who requested anonymity, told WXIN. "He said, ‘I just need your keys. I need your car.’”

The woman surrendered the keys to her 2019 Acura, and the man drove away, the television station reported. Police searched the nearby parking lots but were unable to locate the vehicle.

The woman said people need to be aware of their surroundings when exiting their vehicles.

“Before getting out of your vehicle, check to see is anyone looking at you, does anyone look suspicious and just don’t always assume that you’re safe,” she told WXIN.
