Kid mullet champion named: Meet Allan Baltz, 2021′s winner

Sadly it’s the hairstyle that just won’t go away, especially when there is cold, hard cash and bragging rights on the line.

This year it’s 11-year-old Allan Baltz, from Jonesboro, Arkansas, who can now wear the crown of having the best kids mullet in a nationwide competition, the Jonesboro Sun reported.

Allan won the competition with 25,178 votes out of the total 111,806 votes cast.

He told KAIT that he started growing his hair during quarantine last year. At first, his mother, Lesli Baltz, said he wasn’t interested in the annual competition until he found out cash was involved.

But he didn’t want to keep the prize for himself. Instead, he wanted to give it to kids who need it most, like those in the foster care system since both he and his twin sister were foster children before they were adopted in 2015.

This isn’t the first time he thought about kids who are not as lucky as he and his sister are.

“They’ve done diapers and wipes for birthday gifts instead of gifts from friends for several years and so this is who he is and it’s just really cool that other people get to see it too,” Lesli Baltz told KAIT.

“I know I’m one of the really lucky ones because I have a great mom and dad who adopted me, and I really want to be able to help other kids who are looking for their forever homes,” Allan told the Sun. “This money will really help people who are working with foster kids.”

That means foster kids organizations Project Zero and Together We Foster will be splitting the $2,500 prize money Allan won.
