TRUSSVILLE, Ala. — A New Jersey man is accused of possessing more than 74 pounds of marijuana after Alabama police conducted a traffic stop on Friday.
Izura Lonon-Rosa, 39, of Asbury Park, was arrested and charged with trafficking marijuana and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, according to Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.
Police in Trussville stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation at 1:09 a.m. EDT, WBMA-TV reported. After smelling an odor of marijuana, police found 74.1 pounds of the drug in Lonon-Rosa’s vehicle, according to AL.com.
“During the stop, the odor of marijuana was detected, and the driver admitted to recently smoking marijuana inside the vehicle,” Trussville Police Department Lt. Clint Riner told The Trussville Tribune. “A probable cause search of the vehicle was conducted. During the search, 74.1 pounds of marijuana was discovered.”
Lonon-Rosa was arrested and booked into the Jefferson County Jail in Birmingham, AL.com reported. Bail was set at $1.506 million, online records show.
