The Detroit Police announced the arrest on social media, saying the suspect wanted for the shooting in Greektown on Nov. 27 was taken into custody in Ohio. The suspect’s name was not released. Police said he would be extradited to Michigan to face formal charges.

Investigators said Ariel Harris, 29, was shot and killed at around 2 a.m. on Nov. 27 after an argument over holding the elevator door open, WWJ reported.

Detroit Police Chief James White described the shooting as “absolutely ridiculous” and said the violence was an example of people resorting to violence rather than using problem-solving skills, WJBK reported.

Harris’ family told WWJ that the victim was attempting to let a group of women onto the elevator first when the suspect got upset and fired a gun.

“We need people to proactively have the ability to resolve conflict without using a weapon,” White said during a news conference about the shooting, MLive reported. “Essentially you’re making the ultimate decision because a person wouldn’t hold the elevator door.”
