According to a company news release issued Saturday by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the potentially tainted spinach was processed in the company’s Eastern Canadian plant, and was shipped to six U.S. states: Connecticut, Delaware, New Jersey, New York, Maryland and Pennsylvania.

The company also recalled baby spinach shipped to stores in Ontario, Quebec and New Brunswick in Canada.

Meanwhile, Fresh Attitude products produced in the company’s Belle Glade, Florida, plant are not subject to the recall and have been deemed safe for consumption, according to VegPro.

The recalled products include:

Baby Spinach: 5-ounce Fresh Attitude, best before Dec. 4 and Dec. 5, 2020.

UPC: 888048000042

UPC case: 10888048000049

Baby Spinach: 11-ounce Fresh Attitude, best before Dec. 4.

UPC: 888048000288

According to figures compiled by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, salmonella causes an estimated 1.35 million illnesses and roughly 420 deaths annually.

Symptoms can include fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. It can be fatal in the most severe cases, the CDC stated.

Consumers who purchased the recalled Fresh Attitude should return it to the store where they purchased it for a refund, or throw it away, the company stated.
