WNBA star Sue Bird engaged to soccer standout Megan Rapinoe

WNBA champion Sue Bird revealed Friday that she is engaged to women’s soccer star Megan Rapinoe.

Bird, 40, revealed the engagement with a photo on her Instagram account, People reported.

The couple met at a sponsor event at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Sports Illustrated reported. They became the first openly gay couple to appear in the Body Issue of ESPN The Magazine.

Bird, who has won four titles with the Seattle Storm -- including this season -- is shown in the photo standing in a pool as Rapinoe, 35, kneels on the edge of the pool in a proposal stance.

Bird also won four Olympic gold medals, three FIBA world titles and two NCAA Championships with the University of Connecticut.

Rapinoe, 35, won a gold medal with the U.S. squad at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London and also was part of the U.S. national team that won the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup. She also won an NCAA title in 2005 while playing for the University of Portland.

Representatives for the couple did not respond to People’s request for comment.

The Storm congratulated the couple on Twitter, headlining their post “Ring Season.”

“Congrats to THE power couple on their engagement!!!" the team wrote.
