Woman sentenced in fatal car crash in east Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — It was a tearful testimony in court from the woman now convicted of second-degree murder after a drunken car crash last year.

“I’m so sorry,” Marla Sadowski wept in court.

Sadowski apologized tearfully to the family of Larry Morrow in court Thursday.

Police say Sadowski is responsible for a deadly crash when she drove while intoxicated.

According to police, in the early morning hours of Dec. 12, Sadowski plowed through a red light at more than 85 mph near Eastway Drive and Central Avenue in Charlotte.

She T-boned Morrow’s vehicle, sending his car across the lane, killing him almost instantly and leaving behind a pile of debris.

Morrow’s daughters were emotional as they read prepared statements in court saying nothing could bring their father back.

“Today is like attending his second funeral. We will never get over this. Nothing that happens here today can change the fact that our father and our hero is gone,” one daughter said.

Sadowski pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and driving while impaired with a blood alcohol level of .15 at the time of the crash.

She already had a prior DWI conviction.

“Our lives were forever changed because of one person who, in that moment, did not have any regard for human life in the name of a good time,” said one of the victim’s daughters, Latoyia Edwards.

A judge sentenced Sadowski to a minimum of 12 years behind bars.
