Are you heading to the coast this summer to get your fill of the beach? It’s a great way to spend the weekend, but it can also be stressful if you’re not prepared for what’s waiting for you. Toyota of N Charlotte has travel tips to get you to sun and sand safely and efficiently. Check it out!
Use our travel tips to get to the shore
Tip #1: Prep your car. You’re probably going to have to hit the highway to get to the beach, so make sure your car is ready for it. Our first travel tip is to gas up before you leave, and also ensure you’re up to date on basic auto service like oil changes, tire rotations, brake service, and battery maintenance. No one wants a flat tire or an overheated car when you’re trying to hit the waves.
Tip #2: Be ready to drive on the sand. If you’re going to drive on the sand, you’ll need to lower your tires’ PSI a little bit in order to give them more surface area (and remember to bring it back up before you drive on pavement). Also, adjust your driving habits. Our N Charlotte Toyota service techs recommend slowing your speed, avoiding sharp turns, trying to gently accelerate and brake, and also driving on hard sand whenever possible. (And remember, four-wheel drive is best if you’re going to
Tip #3: Plan your route. The kids are out of school and summer is the #1 season for vacations, so our next travel tip has to do with saving you time and money. Plan where you’re going (and book a hotel ahead of time if you’re staying over), plot your route, and come up with an alternate route in case there’s traffic. Finally, figure out where you’re going to park ahead of time so you don’t waste the day driving around looking for a spot. This will save you a lot of time, money, and frustration!

Tip #4: Keep sand out of the car. Baby powder is a quick way to get sand off your feet (or carry a bottle of water to rinse). You should also store all of your beach gear in a tote in the cargo area to keep sand out of the carpet, and bring plastic bags to store sandy shoes. Also, remember to throw down towels if you’re going to be riding home in wet suits!
Tip #5: Bring Ziploc bags with you. You can store your electronics in them so they’re protected from sand and water, and they’re also great to keep ice packs in inside the cooler to prevent everything from getting wet.
