WSOC-TV Channel 9 Announces 'Big 22' Player Of The Year

CONCORD, N.C.,None — Thousands of votes were tallied in the last round of voting in Channel 9's "Big 22" contest and the high-school football player who received the most votes and has now been named as "Player of the Year" is B.J. Beecher from Concord High School in Concord, NC.

A celebration is being planned at Concord High School this Thursday, November 3rd, 2011 where the school will be presented a $5,000 donation check from WSOC-TV for the school scholarship fund to be designated by Principal Carla Black, and B.J. will receive a personalized trophy naming him as the "Big 22" Player of the Year.

Prior to the season, coaches in the Charlotte DMA viewing area were asked to nominate up to five high-school football players to be considered for the "Big 22" players to watch in 2011. After reviewing the coach's nominations, the final 22 were chosen by the Channel 9 Sports Team.

Out of the top 22 players five finalists were determined by a percentage of public votes and a percentage of votes from the WSOC-TV Sports Team. Beecher, along with four other finalists were named including B.J. Boyd, Northwestern High School, Rock Hill, SC – Paul Griggs, Charlotte Latin, Charlotte, NC – Dee Littlejohn, Lincolnton High School, Lincolnton, NC and Lee McNeill, Porter Ridge High School, Indian Trail, NC.
