WSOC –TV Channel 9 Announces "Big 22" Player Of The Year

BELMONT, N.C. — Thousands of votes were tallied in the last round of voting in WSOC-TV's Channel 9 "Big 22" contest brought to you by OrthoCarolina. 

The high-school football player who received the most public votes and has now been named as the 2012 Big 22 "Player of the Year" is Devan Robbins from South Point High School in Belmont, N.C.   

A celebration is planned at South Point High School on Thursday, November 1st, 2012 where the school's Principal, Gary Ford, will receive a $10,000 donation for the school's scholarship fund along with Robbins receiving a personalized trophy, all provided by WSOC-TV and OrthoCarolina.         

Prior to the season, coaches in the Charlotte DMA viewing area were asked to nominate up to five high-school football players to be considered for the "Big 22" players to watch in 2012.   After reviewing the coach's nominations, the final 22 were chosen by the Channel 9 Sports Team.   

Out of the top 22 players five finalists were determined by a percentage of public votes and a percentage of votes from the WSOC-TV Sports Team.   Robbins, along with four other finalists were named –Tyrone Crowder-Richmond High School, Devin Pearson-South Pointe High School, Michael Radford-Charlotte Country Day and Lee Wright-York Comprehensive.
