Kristin Leigh joined WSOC-TV in July 2018.
Kristin is a Carolina girl and is excited to return to her home state!
Kristin was raised in Rocky Mount, where her family still lives today. She’s a proud Tar Heel, who earned her journalism degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Don’t ask who her favorite NCAA men’s basketball team is if you’re a Duke fan!
Before joining the Eyewitness News team in Charlotte, Kristin served the Memphis community at FOX13 News in Tennessee. As a reporter and fill-in anchor in the Mid-South, Kristin chased storms and covered local crime, politics, and public schools. Kristin covered several stories that captured viewers’ attention nationwide, including the Holly Bobo murder trial in 2017, the Mississippi military plane crash that killed 16 service members in 2017, and the deadly shooting attack on police officers in Baton Rouge in 2016.
Kristin is an Emmy-nominated reporter. She also won an award from the Tennessee Associated Press for anchoring six hours of continuing coverage in December 2017, when the City of Memphis bypassed state procedures to hastily remove Confederate statues in public parks.
Prior to working in Memphis, Kristin worked for three years at WRAL-TV in Raleigh, first as a production assistant, and eventually as a weekend assignment editor.
Kristin believes local news should be a vehicle for positive change by shining lights in dark corners. She believes investigative journalism helps communities thrive by holding the powerful accountable, and bringing bad actors to light.
