• The affordable housing crisis - watch Priced Out Of Charlotte May 30

Channel 9 is investigating a crisis in Charlotte. Hardworking families are struggling to find an affordable place to live. Charlotte needs 24,000 more affordable units, according to consultants for the city. Consultants said one in three households are spending more than 1/3 of their incomes on housing, which is considered cost-burdened.

Channel 9 spoke to families moving to the area who can’t find a home, families worried they’ll lose their place to live and residents living in unimaginable conditions because they can’t afford to look elsewhere.

Channel 9 spoke with city leaders and housing experts trying to tackle this complicated issue. We also dug into what other cities are doing to address similar issues and what we can learn from them.

In a special presentation from Eyewitness News, we’re investigating the problem and looking for solutions for the thousands of people being priced out of Charlotte. Join us for a primetime special, where we’ll share the stories of those impacted most by the crisis and have a panel of experts to address what needs to be done. It airs Wednesday, May 30 at 8 p.m. on Channel 9.
