N Charlotte Toyota Prius was born in Japan over 15 years ago

The N Charlotte Toyota Prius was first available to US consumers back in 2000; it was available in Japan in 1997 (with great success), but didn’t make its way stateside for three years. It was much different than the sleek hatchback we’re used to today – the original car was more similar to a Toyota Corolla in looks! It also wasn’t nearly as efficient as the current model in terms of fuel economy and emissions. 

However, this was just a jumping off point for the Toyota Prius in N Charlotte. The second generation came to fruition in 2003 after a huge amount of demand, and this is where the aerodynamic hatchback design came into play. This particular model also offered a bit more horsepower for an improved driving experience, as well as better fuel efficiency (which means more money saved at the pump). It additionally cut down even further on smog-forming emissions, and its popularity continued to skyrocket! 

The next hybrid model is the generation that we’re familiar with today. It’s gotten a few refreshes in terms of style and technology, but the third generation model came to our NC Toyota dealership with even more enhanced fuel efficiency (50 mpg combined) and fantastic technological features (like a remote air conditioning system and display audio). However, rumors abound – we’ve heard that the next N Charlotte Toyota Prius will have a bit of a refresh to boast, and that a whole new generation will be introduced in 2015. In the meantime, the latest addition to this hybrid lineup is the Persona Series!
