Can you believe that the iconic Toyota Prius in N Charlotte has been around for over a decade? It’s celebrating its sweet sixteenth birthday this year, and our NC Toyota dealership is thrilled to be able to offer it to our customers as an affordable, reliable and stylish way to go green. (And did we mention the buckets of money you’ll save on gas?) In order to celebrate it’s birthday, we’re taking a look back at the illustrious history of this fantastic new Toyota hybrid near Charlotte!
Where did the N Charlotte Toyota Prius start out?
This impressive Toyota hybrid actually didn’t make it stateside until 2000 – it was first introduced in Japan in 1997, but it had actually been in production since 1992 as Toyota figured out a way to integrate eco-friendliness into a still impressive performance. Here are a few momentous occasions in the history of the N Charlotte Toyota Prius!
The first-generation of the new Toyota Prius in N Charlotte wasn’t even a hatchback – it was actually a four-door sedan that was more similar in looks to the Toyota Corolla or Toyota Camry! It also had less interior space – a large battery pack took up a lot of the extra room that the current model boasts. It was, however, a unique hybrid that was soon turning heads all over the planet.
For the second-generation of this new Toyota hybrid, Toyota decided to amp up both performance and style! They created the sleek new hatchback look for which the 2013 model is known, and increased performance capabilities to both up the power factor and also make the car more eco-friendly than before! Additionally, ergonomics were address and both passenger legroom and cargo space were increased exponentially. This generation was available to the public starting in 2003!
2009 brought the third-generation of the new Toyota hybrid near Charlotte, and to much fanfare! This new generation introduced a newly altered design to increase aerodynamics, and it also brought more horsepower to the table (134 hp, to be exact). This is the current model, but the 4th generation is rumored to be heading our way in 2015 and we can’t wait to see what’s in store!
