    NCZ033-050-501-503-505-170430- McDowell Mountains NC-Caldwell Mountains NC-Burke Mountains NC- Mitchell NC-Avery NC- 1131 PM EDT WED MAY 16 2018 ...THUNDERSTORMS WITH TORRENTIAL RAINFALL WILL IMPACT NORTHEASTERN MCDOWELL...SOUTHEASTERN MITCHELL...WEST CENTRAL CALDWELL... SOUTHEASTERN AVERY AND NORTHWESTERN BURKE COUNTIES UNTIL 1230 AM EDT... At 1127 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a series of thunderstorms with torrential rainfall developing about 5 miles southeast of Spruce Pine, and moving northeast at 15 mph along the east side of the Blue Ridge. These showers and thunderstorms were producing rainfall at rates of one-half to three-quarters of an inch per hour. This rain was falling on areas already saturated by heavy rainfall earlier in the day. Locations to be impacted include... Linville Falls, B.R. Parkway-Linville Falls To Grandfather, Table Rock, Edgemont, North Cove, Pineola, Ashford, Little Switzerland, Jonas Ridge and Woodlawn. Flooding will be possible along tributaries to the Upper Catawba River. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Torrential rainfall may flood areas with poor drainage, such as ditches and underpasses. Avoid these areas and do not cross flooded roads. Water levels of small streams may also rise rapidly.
