SOUTHWESTERN GASTON...NORTHWESTERN YORK AND NORTHEASTERN CHEROKEE COUNTIES UNTIL 900 PM EDT... At 811 PM EDT, Doppler radar was tracking a strong thunderstorm 10 miles southeast of Gaffney, or 4 miles northwest of Hickory Grove, moving northeast at 25 mph. Locations to be impacted include... Gastonia, Shelby, Kings Mountain, Bessemer City, South Gastonia, Blacksburg, Grover, Patterson Springs, Hickory Grove and Earl. Wind gusts up to 35 mph and very heavy rainfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour will be possible in these areas. Flooding of low lying areas may occur. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... The combination of gusty winds and saturated soil conditions will cause scattered trees and power lines to fall. Seek shelter inside an interior room. Torrential rainfall may flood areas with poor drainage, such as ditches and underpasses. Avoid these areas and do not cross flooded roads. Water levels of small streams may also rise rapidly.
