CHARLOTTE WEATHER FORECAST: Steamy conditions usher in strong storms

8:15 p.m.: Mecklenburg County storm warnings have expired.

7:30 p.m.: Mecklenburg and surrounding counties under a severe thunderstorm warning until 8:30 p.m.

THURSDAY: Temperatures warmed up into the mid-80s with humid conditions that spawned a few severe thunderstorms that brought hail, heavy rain and lightning. More storms are in store for Thursday night.

A cold front will push through overnight taking the humidity and the storm chances with it.

STORM THREATS: Heavy rain, lightning, small hail, strong wind. Rain accumulation under 1 inch.

FRIDAY: Much drier by Friday afternoon and a great weekend is still ahead.  A stray shower is possible. A push of cool air will keep temperatures well below average from Sunday into early next week. Clear out by afternoon. Highs in lower 90s. Cooling off for the second half of the weekend into early next week (low 70s during the day, 40s at night.

WEEKEND: Sunshine, cooler temperatures. High on Saturday near 80. High on Sunday drops to mid-70s.

MONDAY: Sunshine with temperatures in low 70s.

NEXT WEEK: Long range: Afternoon storms return next Tue-Thurs.
