BEECH MOUNTAIN, N.C. — Lots of excitement and nostalgia always surround the mysterious Land of Oz theme park in Beech Mountain, North Carolina. Although it was closed for many years, the park now opens its gates to host special events several times a year.
On Wednesday, the park announced its schedule of events for 2020 via social media.
This summer, you can follow the yellow brick road during “Journey with Dorothy,” June 12, 19, and 26, and July 2-3. During this interactive experience, Dorothy will guide you through the park while selected guests get the chance to play the part of one of her trusted companions or the wicked witch that she meets throughout her journey.
This fall, the annual Autumn at Oz festival is set for two consecutive weekends, Sept. 11-13 and 18-20. This event features all of the characters, lots of photo opportunities and more family-friendly festivities.
According to the post on the park’s Facebook page, information on tickets will be announced soon.
Know before you go
Typically, the events sell out fast, so plan on purchasing your tickets in advance (as soon as they go on sale is probably a good plan).
Tickets for the summer dates are usually sold for time-specific tours, so you’ll want to arrive early to allow time for taking a shuttle to the park.
The yellow brick road is comprised of 44,000 yellow bricks and winds around the very top of Beech Mountain at an altitude of 5,506 feet above sea level.
The tour takes about 45 minutes to an hour.
