Virtual concert to benefit Charlotte’s homeless community

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — The Charlotte music community is coming together to help raise money for and awareness of the city’s affordable housing crisis.

On Jan. 15 a virtual concert featuring more than 40 artists will be streamed on the Facebook page of Love Thy Neighbor: A Tribute to Benefit Roof Above starting at 8 p.m.

Performers include Adam Lazzara (of Taking Back Sunday), Chris Shinn, Graham Sharp (of Steep Canyon Rangers), Jim Lauderdale, Tyler Ramsey, Benji Hughes, David Childers and Jeremy Lynn Woodall, Billy Joe Shaver’s longtime guitarist. Each artist will perform a cover from an entertainer who passed away in 2020, including Van Halen, John Prine, Rush, Billy Joe Shaver, Little Richard and Fountains of Wayne.

There’s no cost to watch, but donations are encouraged and all money raised will benefit Roof Above, the new name of the merged Urban Ministry Center and Men’s Shelter of Charlotte, which offers a spectrum of homeless services and housing programs.

Donations can also be made at anytime here.

Last year, Roof Above served more than 4,000 people through its programs and helped move 403 people out of homelessness into affordable housing.
