3 Charlotte ZIP codes top list of most expensive for renters in NC

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A newly released report shows that the most expensive rent in North Carolina is in the Queen City.

In uptown, residents who rent apartment units are paying more than any other neighborhood in the state.

Mecklenburg County sweeps the top three spots on the list from Rent Café, which ranked the top 50 most expensive ZIP codes in the state.

Uptown is the most expensive, with average monthly rent at $1,600.

Dilworth and South End took the second spot, where residents there are paying about $1,400 a month in rent.

The Elizabeth neighborhood came third, with rent also in the $1,400 range.

The good news is that rent in both uptown and Elizabeth has dropped compared to last year as developers build more apartments.

North Carolina is still considered to be affordable compared to the rest of the country. The average rent in the state is a little over $1,000, which is below the national average.
